Sani Bashir

Sani Bashir, Nigerian
artist, has this to say about his work. “My art is colorful
and striking and it is a manifestation of my love and lust for life and
art,
which in itself is pure expression of self with a broad vision of life
as a
journey from innocence to wisdom and from ignorance to competence.”
When asked
of his favorite medium, he has none, “it would depend on the subject
matter,
mood and time, which ever one it is it has to be a vehicle fluent,
competent,
subject to exploration and expansion, nothing is fixed.”
Sani
Bashir born in Kaduna, Nigeria in 1953, displayed
artistic talent before entering elementary school.
After secondary schooling he attended Ahmadu
Bello University Zaria, from which he graduated with distinction. He has had many careers, starting as a school
teacher, then a graphic artist, moving onto the National Assembly in
Lagos and
later being transferred to the Federal Ministry of
Information and Culture Lagos from which he
was posted to Washington, DC as an information and cultural
attaché in
1991.
While
here in the United States he has continued to work
hard at his artwork and has won many awards and held art shows in
Florida,
Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland attracting an increasing number
of
collectors and a committed following.
