Phoebe Farris credits her achievements in the art world to strong family ties and cultural influences.  Her family’s creative expression is influenced by their Powhatan-Pamunkey heritage. Her books, Voices of Color: Art and Society in the Americas, and Women Artists of Color: A Bio-Critical Sourcebook to 20^th Century Artists in the Americas , create a dialogue about the intersections of social activism and the arts.
