Kimberly Thorpe

Kimberly Thorpe states that her images express sensations of flying and
movement through an imaginary landscape. “I draw upon eccentric
mountain forms in Chinese landscape painting as well as the visible
brushwork and color
juxtaposition of Impressionist landscape painting.” Her
landscapes are round or oval in shape because she likes to experiment
with different formats. The circular paintings are painted on
canvas or linen stretched over and secured to old bicycle rims that she
has collected as discarded
property in and around the Washington, DC area. “I like recycling
these
materials into art.”
Ms Thorpe received her BA degree in studio art from St. Mary’s College
of Maryland in ‘94 and in ‘96 earned a Master of Fine Arts from Rhode
Island School of Design where she was a presidential scholar. She
has participated in juried and group shows in the DC area and has been
the recipient of many awards.
