Parish Gallery is pleased to present Harriet
Lesser, and her
paintings of Classic Cars of the late 40’s and early 50’s.
Harriet Lesser spent two summers in Cuba studying the hundreds of “classic” American General Motors and Ford cars, which are found on the streets of Havana, and turning these into brilliantly colored, oil and acrylic gel paintings. These inventive transformations are Chevrolets with Buick or Ford grills or perhaps fenders from Fords attached to Buicks or Plymouths, plus parts created to replace worn out elements. These are tributes to survival, invention and communication from another era.
Ms. Lesser who was born in New York City now resides in the Washington, DC area. For over twenty years she has worked in the field of art as a consulting curator, an art instructor and a publisher/editor for an art newsletter. For the past 25 years she has exhibited in both individual and group shows, has numerous works in select collections, and has earned several commissions.
