A Washington
native, Deborah Brisker-Burk is
an award winning artist who has been creating art since childhood. She has worked in a range of media including
sculpture, pottery, printmaking, oil, watercolor, acrylic, and collage. Her current paintings are mixed media on
canvas and paper. Her work has been
featured in numerous galleries, collections, and international
exhibitions in
the U.S., Israel, Canada,
Russia, Egypt, and India.
In
this series entitled “Concerning the Figure” she uses
the
human form as a platform, sometimes subtle, otherwise, bold as the tool
of her
exploration. She enjoys mixing media,
employing different marks and lines, muted and rich color and varied
texture to
shape her vision. Ms. Burk states “I am
energized by the creative process of painting. It
is about capturing essences, and being in the ‘flow’ of
life. While
working, I try to push the edge, to open a new door; to reach a new
plateau;
and to coax my inner vision into reality on canvas and paper.”
“My primary
painting concerns
are to evoke a mood, to experiment with space on the painting surface
and to
stimulate reactions between line, color, and texture.
I work these objectives by playing with and
bending the ‘rules’ of design.”
Ms. Burk
holds both graduate
and undergraduate degrees in art form George Washington
University. The artist teaches workshops in her studio
and abroad. In pursuing fresh ideas for
her art, she has traveled extensively in Europe, Australia, Russia, and North
America.
